La Ceiba de Guadalupe is an invocation to Virgin Mary present in almost every country of Latin America and has a very interesting story. Candelaria Church is the oldest in San Salvador.. The Metropolitan Cathedral, outstanding for its modern design is the last blessed cathedral in the XX century. El Rosario Church has a rainbow of colors through artistic glass figures inside of it and El Sagrado Corazon de Jesús Basílica is one of the few churches made of stamped tin which reflects the influence of the different architectural styles from Europe.

We will tour around the heroic city of Santa Ana. This city reflects the beginning of the XX century luxurious and European influence on its monuments and architecture. Santa Ana, as San Salvador was design over a grid as the typical Spaniard Royal disposition. We will visit one of the best preserved theaters in Central America build during one of the Salvadorean wealthiest periods. The baroque-gothic Cathedral is dedicated to Jesus Grandmother. Its high arches and details reflect the European influence in our country. We will visit some other buildings of incredible beauty and historical relevance.

This is a city tour which will guide us through the main streets and monuments in the city. Driving along Alameda Roosevelt we´ll reach Cuscatlán park finding Sala de Exposiciones Salarrue art Gallery. Keeping on going with our tour, we will come out to “Colonia Flor Blanca” with the distinctive architectonical characteristics of Arq. Sol. The houses were built exclusively for El Salvador´s aristocracy of the 1940s. Continuing with the museum visits we will get to the Museo Forma, with a very important showroom of art pieces. Finally we will end at the Anthropological Museum David J. Guzmán to learn about the collection of pre-Columbian vestiges, the study of different civilizations found in the region, traditions and culture throughout the years and much more.

Driving along the principle avenues of the city, we will go through the history of El Salvador told by the different monuments found around the capital city. Plaza de las Americas is where El Salvador´s patron, after which the country is named, is found: “El Salvador del Mundo”. We will keep on going down to Plaza Gerardo Barrios. In front of which we find the Metropolitan Cathedral and on one side the elegant National Palace with the images of Queen Elizabeth and Christopher Columbus. Both buildings, of great historical importance. Finally we will visit the National theater of Neoclassic architectonical style which reminds us to the great European theaters.

 

MILITARY CITY TOUR

After the independence the Salvadorian Armed Forces where established becoming the principal witness of Salvadorian History. Monument, along the way will help us understand the history. We´ll initiate at the Military Museum, originally called Cuartel el Zapote (El Zapote Fort) located aside of the ex- Presidential house. Here we will see, from military artillery used in the Colonial period up to our times; uniforms used by Presidents from the beginning of the century; the Pope´s vehicle designed and assembled in our country and according to international reviews, one of the best of its era, this one used by John Paul the II in both of his visits to the country. Our next stop is the Aviation Museum located at the Ilopango Airport, to learn more about the aviation history in our country. We will see old airplanes, know about our heroes and our.

Let’s drive through Boulevard Jerusalen, road that divides the Parakeets Park until we get to Botanical Garden, located in an extinguished volcano crater. Here we will enjoy of more than 3500 species of plants and flowers and some of our native fauna. Late on we will drive up to the rock formation called “La Puerto del Diablo” (The Devil´s Gate) at “Los Planes de Renderos”. There is an amazing view of San Vicente Volcano and Ilopango volcanic lake from here.

We will depart to the colonial town of Panchimalco, protected by the UNESCO and with Nahuatl origins. It is located below the rock formation known as “La Puerta del Diablo” (The Devils Gate) place to be visited before arriving Panchimalco. The views to San Vicente Volcano and to the volcanic lake of Ilopango are wonderful. We will keep on going to visit the town that has a lovely colonial church “Iglesia de La Santa Cruz”. And we´ll also go to the art Gallery from the Salvadorian Michelangelo who captures the features of the settlers.

We will start our trip going to the impressive Quezaltepeque Volcano to enjoy of the wonderful site of the largest crater it has, known as “El Boquerón”. We will hike along natural gardens and pathways to go and see this big hole. Coming down to reach “Joya de Cerén” archaeological site, we have to cross the “Black Sea”; a large field covered with lava, now petrified volcanic rock. “Joya de Ceren” is the jewel of the Mayan World. It is an indigenous town covered by the ashes of Caldera Volcano eruption 1400 years ago. “Joya de Ceren” is the jewel of the Mayan World. It is an indigenous town covered by the ashes of Caldera Volcano´s eruption 1400 years ago. It is very interesting to see the vestiges of the pre-hispanic civilization that shows us the everyday life of these people. It was named Heritage for Humanity by the UNESCO. A few Kms away we find San Andres archaeological site. Here we see different structures for religious and commercial purposes. The recent discovers have found that the high class of the society of those times, lived here.

Today we will depart to the “Volcano Compound” finding several volcanoes all together. As we reach the top of Cerro Verde, an extinct volcano we can admire the most spectacular views: Izalco Volcano, one of the youngest volcanoes in America. In the ´50s it was known as the “Lighthouse of the Pacific” because it could be seen from many miles inside the Pacific Ocean. Santa Ana Volcano is the highest volcano in El Salvador and Lake Coatepeque which is a crater itself. Then we will surround the crater that forms the lake to come down for lunch at its shores. In the afternoon we will depart to the heroic city of Santa Ana. This city reflects on its monuments the luxury and the European influence at the beginning of the XX century. We will visit one of the Best well preserved theatres in Central America and the baroque-gothic Cathedral dedicated to Jesus’ Grandmother. We will visit some other building of incredible beauty and historical relevance.

 

SUCHITOTO

We will visit the beautiful city of Suchitoto, name that in Nahuatl means “Place of the Flowerbird”. This city offers not only post-colonial architecture but the essence of an antique city with great importance of the past because had one of the main indigo productions of the country. Here we will visit Santa Lucía church built in 1853. If you look closely at the domes behind the towers, you will see that each is decorated with plates from a porcelain dinette service that was donated as a token of appreciation by a bride who was married in the church. After the town visit that includes handicrafts and souvenir stores, we will go for a boat ride at Suchitlan Lake. We will go to different points of the lake such as the bird’s island. Lunch will be in a nice restaurant with panoramic views of the lake.
